Its a well known fact that number of people accessing the internet on mobile devices is growing exponentially. Consumer mobile applications are very  prevalent. Enterprise mobility is also the buzzword now and more and more enterprises are adding mobile applications to their traditional desktop and web application workflows.

Building and testing a mobile application presents a different set of challenges. Android with its market fragmentation adds to the test matrix and increases the complexity of testing. I will discuss the problems and challenges in testing mobile applications and guidelines for building a test strategy.

I will further discuss cloud based testing solutions and how to utilize them. Due to short shipping cycles, frequent releases and continuous evolving nature, its important for mobile applications to be automated. I will discuss a few widely used tools for android test automation namely: Robotium, Selenium Android Web Driver and Sikuli. I will give a demo of automated testing using these tools. I will also discuss how one or more of these tools can be used to build a end to end test framework for testing Android applications.
